The Sacramento County coroner’s office on Tuesday released the name of the two people who died in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 99 in the Galt area.
They were identified as 52-year-old Andrew James Meda and 55-year-old Jill Turnacliff Meda. Both were listed as residents of Manteca.
The crash was reported about 6:43 p.m. Monday on northbound Highway 99 north of the Mingo Road offramp.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Michael Bradley said a 1990s model Saturn was northbound and was driven partly onto the median. The driver overcorrected, and the vehicle crossed the northbound lanes, going off the roadway and crashing into a tree. The impact with the tree split the vehicle in half, ejecting the occupants.
Bradley said a dog in the vehicle also was killed.
