A man accused of stealing items from a Placerville grocery store and punching an employee before fleeing was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon.
Placerville police responded about 4 p.m. to a report of a robbery at the Grocery Outlet on Broadway. When they arrived, they were told that a man had taken miscellaneous grocery items from the store. When he was confronted by the store employee, he reportedly punched the employee in the face, then fled, according to a Police Department news release.
The suspect was found a short time later by an officer and police dog on the hillside east of the Dollar Tree store, police said. The man was identified as 36-year-old Brook Ryan of Placerville.
Ryan was booked into El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of strong-arm robbery.
