A Lodi man was shot and killed by police Saturday morning after officers said the man charged at them with a knife.
Lodi Police Department officials said officers were called just after 9 a.m. to a disturbance on Elderica Way in the northwest part of the city. Police say 43-year-old Parminder Singh Shergill was armed with a knife and charged at the officers, who opened fire. Officials say Shergill was treated for his wounds but was later pronounced dead.
The officers, 22-year and 15-year Lodi police veterans, were placed on administrative leave, according to police officials. Lodi police, the California Department of Justice and the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s office are investigating the incident.
