The man believed to be barricaded inside a Folsom Boulevard motel today has been found dead after an apparent suicide, according to Sacramento police.

Officers evacuated a number of rooms at the motel, located on the 8600 block of Folsom Boulevard in the College/Glen neighborhood, after gunshots were reported earlier today.

Shortly after 11 a.m., an occupant of the motel called police to report that a bullet came through the wall from an adjacent room, said police spokeswoman Officer Michele Gigante.

The caller also reported hearing several gunshots, she said.

Police had not been able to make contact with the gunman and were not sure whether he was still in the motel room, but they summoned SWAT officers and negotiators to the scene as a precaution, Gigante said.

Eventually, officers entered the motel room and found a man who had suffered what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one in the 911 caller’s room was injured.
