Two young Sacramento men were killed Saturday when the car they were in crashed into a tree near Howe Avenue and American River Drive.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s office identified the two Sunday as Deshpal Singh, 25 and Pardeep Singh Aulakh, 23. It was not clear Sunday who was the driver.

The accident happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday, when their car, apparently speeding south on Howe Avenue, struck a tree in the center divide just south of American River Drive, according to authorities.

The two men were ejected from the vehicle, which was in flames when officers arrived at the scene. Traffic around the crash site was diverted until 6 a.m., when the roads were reopened.
