A portion of I-80 in Dixon was closed for approximately three hours Monday night after a California Highway Patrol officer shot a suspect who was suspected of vehicle theft and assault with a deadly weapon.
The CHP received a call from dispatch around 7:30 p.m. to be on the lookout for an assault suspect in a stolen pickup, according to Officer Chris Parker.
Officers were set up on the interstate, eastbound near Pedrick Road, when they saw the vehicle and made an enforcement stop. The suspect exited the vehicle and charged at one officer, said Parker, and the other officer fired once.
The unnamed male suspect fell into the traffic lane and remained combative as officers attempted to administer first aid. The suspect was taken to a Vacaville hospital Monday night. The interstate reopened fully around 10:30 p.m.
