Pedestrian dies of injuries suffered in Highway 99 collision in Sutter County

A 79-year-old Live Oak woman has died of injuries suffered when she was struck by a vehicle while walking on Highway 99 on Sunday in Sutter County.

A 79-year-old Live Oak woman has died of injuries suffered when she was struck by a vehicle while walking on Highway 99 on Sunday in Sutter County.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred about 6:20 p.m. on northbound Highway 99, north of Clark Road. The woman reportedly was walking in a northeasterly direction in the northbound lane.

The driver, identified by the CHP as Oscar Miranda, 34, of Live Oak, was northbound on Highway 99 in a 2001 Chevrolet. When he saw the woman, he attempted to steer to the left to avoid hitting her, but the vehicle’s passenger-side mirror stuck her head, knocking her down, according to a CHP news release.

Miranda called 911 and used his vehicle to block traffic and prevent other vehicles from running over the woman. The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, where she later died of her injuries, according to the CHP.

CHP officials said neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the collision.
