Sacramento police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of his friend in Old North Sacramento late last year.

Homicide detectives allege that Marcaill Wormley and Branden Anderson were friends before the two got into a fight at a Beaumont Street triplex in the early morning hours of Dec. 23, said police spokeswoman Officer Michele Gigante. After the fight, Wormley pulled out a gun and shot Andersen, 22, who died at the scene, she said.

Wormley was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on unrelated charges Dec. 31. Homicide detectives obtained a warrant for Wormley’s arrest on suspicion of murder today, and Wormley is scheduled to be arraigned on that charge Thursday.

Although police were able to interview some witnesses after the shooting, detectives believe there are other witnesses with information who might feel comfortable coming forward now that the suspect is in custody, Gigante said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP.
