An Auburn teenager was killed Thursday morning when his motorcycle hit a tree.

The California Highway Patrol said that Joshua Lewis, 17, was riding his motorcycle at about 7:15 a.m. westbound on Taylor Road, west of Tumble Lane between Loomis and Newcastle, when he was unable to negotiate a right-hand curve.

The motorcycle traveled across the eastbound lane onto the south side of the roadway where it struck a tree.

Lewis was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he died.
