LAKE TAHOE -- Prescribed fire operations are planned to resume Tuesday on the south, east and west shores of Lake Tahoe.
U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will continue the fires through the weekend, weather conditions permitting.
Although locations may vary due to changing conditions, operations are planned in the Luther Pass Campground off Highway 89 near South Lake Tahoe, on the west side of Highway 89 near Tahoma, and in Slaughterhouse Canyon on the east shore.
Smoke from the prescribed fires may be visible on Highway 89 and elsewhere in the Tahoe basin. Forest Service staff will post road signs around the areas affected.
Updates on the fires will be available on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit's fire information line, (530) 543-2600, extension 6.
Prescribed fires are conducted to reduce wildfire risk in the basin. Every effort is made to plan them during weather patterns that carry smoke away from communities, according to a Forest Service news release.
