The Sacramento County Jail inmate who died in the hospital after falling ill in his cell has been identified by the coroner.
He is listed on the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office website as David Springle, 24, of Citrus Heights.
Sheriff’s department officials said Springle had been incarcerated since Saturday on drug-related charges and vehicle code violations.
On Monday night, jail deputies were told that the inmate was vomiting and having other medical problems in his cell. He was immediately sent to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The cause of death is not yet known, however nothing suspicious appears to have occurred, according to the sheriff’s department. An investigation will be conducted in accordance with departmental procedures and state law.
