Citrus Heights police officers shot and killed a woman at about noon today after she rammed a car she was driving into two police vehicles and fled, triggering a chase, police said.
Police spokesman Bryan Fritsch said officers had pulled over a suspected stolen vehicle at 11:30 a.m. on the 700 block of Madison Avenue. The lone occupant, a female driver in her 20s, rammed one police vehicle and then drove away, leading to a pursuit at up to 70 mph.
She subsequently rammed a second police vehicle on the 7500 block of Sunset Avenue just east of San Juan Avenue. At that point, “Our officers felt their life was in imminent danger and fired on her,” Fritsch said.
Two officers were involved in the shooting. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later determined that the vehicle was stolen.
The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation of the shooting because it happened in an unincorporated area of the county. Officials declined to release the name of the woman.
