A 62-year-old woman who died of injuries suffered when she was struck by a vehicle in Rancho Cordova early Sunday has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Sofia Sergievich.

Rancho Cordova police responded about 6 a.m. to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Zinfandel Drive, north of Frogs Leap Drive. Officers found Sergievich, a Rancho Cordova resident, lying on the pavement next to a Ford Explorer, according to a Police Department news release. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews treated the woman at the scene and transported her to to a local hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

Based on statements from witnesses at the scene, police determined that Sergievich was crossing Zinfandel Drive outside of a marked crosswalk and the driver of the Ford Explorer was unable to stop the vehicle in time to avoid hitting her. Police said the road was wet due to rain.

They said neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected of being factors in the collision.
