The motorist who was pronounced dead after his car hit a freeway pillar Wednesday along Highway 50 has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office.
He was identified as David Paul Johnson, 45, of Sacramento.
Johnson was traveling westbound on Highway 50 near the 26th Street offramp about 6:20 a.m. when his car left the road and struck the concrete overpass pillar, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash trapped Johnson inside his car. He was declared dead at the scene.
The CHP said that excessive speed appears to be a contributing factor leading to the crash. The accident is under investigation.
