Despite efforts to save them, two women died in house fire that erupted early Friday just outside Placerville.
The fire at the single-story home on Rose Lane near Mosquito Road to the northeast of Placerville was reported by a citizen around 5:45 a.m. Friday. The 911 caller said that occupants of the home could still be inside the burning structure.
The first fire crew arrived at 5:51 a.m. to find the house heavily involved in fire. A woman at the scene told firefighters that she believed there were two people inside.
Firefighters began trying to extinguished the flames with water and entered the home with breathing apparatus in an attempt to find the occupants.
“We did find two females in a back bedroom,” said El Dorado County Fire District Chief Michael Hardy.
The women were carried outside where resucitation was attempted. The women, however, were pronounced dead at the scene.
It took crews about 45 minutes to put the fire out. An investigation has begun to learn the cause of the fire.
