One of two victims of a fatal house fire near Placerville early Friday has been identified, authorities said.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said Carol Hague, 62, was a resident of the house destroyed in the fire. The other victim, a woman, has not yet been identified. The cause of their deaths has not been released.

The fire at the single-story home on Rose Lane near Mosquito Road to the northeast of Placerville was reported by a citizen around 5:45 a.m. Friday. The 911 caller said that occupants of the home could still be inside the burning structure.

The first fire crew arrived at 5:51 a.m. to find the house heavily involved in fire. Firefighters began trying to extinguished the flames with water and entered the home with breathing apparatus in an attempt to find the occupants.

Two women were found, but were pronounced dead at the scene. It took crews about 45 minutes to put the fire out.
