A toddler has died after falling into a pond behind his family’s Rio Linda home Tuesday, according to authorities.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department responded to the home on Belcamp Street, but the death appears to be an accident, said Sgt. Lisa Bowman.

The 18-month-old boy apparently fell in a backyard pond while his mother was in the front yard , Bowman said.

Deputies performed CPR on the boy until paramedics arrived and transported him to the UC Davis Medical Center about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Bowman said. He died early this morning.
