The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department has identified the deputies who fatally shot a man in Antelope earlier this month as Joseph Reeve, an 11-year veteran, and Timothy Jones, a 10-year veteran.
Sheriff’s officials have described the March 2 incident on Don Julio Boulevard as an apparent “suicide by cop.” They said deputies confronted Ryan Matthew Shannon, 41, who ignored commands to put down what appeared to be an assault rifle and a handgun. The weapons turned out to be what a sheriff’s spokeswoman described as realistic-looking airsoft pistols.
Deputies found materials at Shannon’s home indicated his intentions to commit suicide by cop, officials said. His husband said he suffered post-traumatic stress disorder after service in the military.
