Citrus Heights man injured trying to break up dog fight

A Citrus Heights man was injured this morning as he tried to break up a dog fight inside his home.
The incident occurred at a home in the 7400 block of Saint Philomena Way. The man owns three pit-bull dogs and was bitten by the dogs when he attempted to break up a dog fight, according to a Citrus Heights Police Department news release. Police said the man fired a handgun in a attempt to frighten the animals and break up the fight. No one was injured by the gunfire.
Police, fire personnel and animal control officers responded to the residence. The man was transported to a hospital with injuries to his arms and hands, according to police.
The dogs were captured by animal control officers and taken for quarantine.
