Elk Grove police are investigating reports that two teenage girls were sexually assaulted by other teenagers in a local park early Sunday morning.

Detective Josh Magdalleno said investigators are working with two victims and have received a cell phone with video of the incident. Magdalleno declined to provide details of the alleged assaults, citing the sensitive nature of the case in which all parties involved are younger than 18 years old.

He said video of the incident is thought to have been sent to numerous cell phones, and anyone who has received the video is urged to contact police.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early morning hours Sunday. Magdalleno said the incident is believed to have occurred at Morse Park, 5540 Bellaterra Drive, but investigators have not confirmed the location.

Contrary to some news reports that gang members were involved, Magdalleno said none of the individuals identified so far in the investigation appears to be a validated gang member.

Anyone with video of the incident is asked to bring it to the Elk Grove Police Department, 8400 Laguna Palms Way. Anyone with information pertaining to the case may call the department at (916) 714-5115, or email a tip via the police department’s website.
