As the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office released the name of a man fatally shot in Arden Arcade on Sunday, detectives searched for clues in his killings.
The death of Michael Ray Johnson, 28, of Sacramento remains a mystery for Sacramento County sheriff’s investigators, who have yet to identify a single witness in the case.
“We need a witness,” said Sgt. Lisa Bowman. “We are stale.”
The gunfire that killed Johnson about 10 p.m. Sunday occurred near the 2500 block of Edison Avenue. When deputies arrived, they found Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene. Although homicide detectives typically have a preliminary identification of their victims even before the coroner releases the name publicly, detectives in this case didn’t know who their victim was until the coroner notified them Thursday, Bowman said.
