The name of the driver who was killed early Sunday morning when his car went off Interstate 80 and plowed into a tree was released Monday.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s office identified him as Raul Ernesto Vasquez, 30, of West Sacramento. He was pronounced dead at 7:13 a.m. at the accident scene.
Early Sunday morning, California Highway Patrol responded to an accident at I-80, near the West El Camino on ramp.
Vasquez was apparently going west on I-80 at a high rate of speed, veered off the road, hit a ditch, which sent his Honda Accord airborne across the on ramp and into a tree. The collision split the car into two. His rate of speed as not disclosed.
Vasquez, who was not wearing his seat belt, died at the scene. He was not ejected.
It was not known Monday if alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
