Nobody was injured when a light rail train was hit by gunfire Tuesday night as it made its way downtown.
Sacramento police said that at about 9:50 p.m. Tuesday a train operator reported that he heard gunfire when the train was inbound between the 23rd Street station and the 16th Street station.
Two of the cars were hit by what appeared to be gunshots. Nobody was injured and no suspect was located.
The cars were apparently fired upon from the north while the train was on the elevated portion of the line around 21st and R streets.
It is not clear if the train was a target or if somebody was shooting into the air while the light rail cars were traveling by on the rail bridge, police said.
