Coroner’s Office identifies pedestrian struck Sunday night on I-80

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who died Sunday night trying to cross Interstate 80 on foot as 47-year-old William Orion Goodpasture.
The incident occurred about 9:50 p.m. California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Officer Lizz Dutton said Goodpasture was running north across westbound Interstate 80, east of Longview Drive in the North Highlands area when he was struck by a 2014 Acura SUV traveling westbound in the No. 3 lane.
Goodpasture reportedly jumped over the concrete divider between westbound I-80 and the light-rail station, ran across the No. 1 and 2 lanes and into the No. 3 lane. Dutton said the Acura was traveling about 60 mph. She said the driver attempted to stop but was unable to do so. The SUV struck Goodpasture, who died at at the scene.
The Coroner’s Office did not identify Goodpasture’s city of residence.
