Here’s one rather unusual reason for stealing a car: Needing to get to your court appearance in another county.

That’s what authorities say a couple did, stealing a car from an auto dealership in Redding. The dealership called police in Sonora at 2:20 p.m. Friday, reporting that a GPS tracking device on a car that had been stolen was indicating the vehicle was parked in front of the Tuolumne County Courthouse.

Officers responded and found the car, a 2001 Mitsubishi, with different license plates on it. A woman, later identified as Teresa Castillo, 45, approached the car. She reportedly told police her husband had bought the car for $200 earlier in the day so they could drive to Sonora for his court appearance.
