A man who passed a car on Highway 160 outside of Courtland died Tuesday night when his vehicle collided with an oncoming car, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Jose E. Romero, 50, of Sacramento was traveling northbound on the road at about 60 mph, when, according to witnesses, he crossed over the double yellow lines to pass vehicles in front of him, the CHP said in a news release.
Romero’s car collided with another car headed southbound, the impact causing him to also crash into a vehicle he passed. The accident occurred on Highway 160, south of Lambert Road, at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The driver in the southbound car, a 26-year-old woman from Antioch, suffered major injuries, according to the CHP. No injuries were reported in the third vehicle.
