The former president of the Del Oro Junior Golden Eagles surrendered Wednesday to the Placer County Jail in Auburn on suspicion of embezzling more than $20,000 from the youth football and cheer program in 2013.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Department reported that Clara Corine Dillard, 35, of Rocklin, used the funds to take trips to Disneyland, Oregon, Washington and to the Bay Area. She served as president of the Del Oro Junior Golden Eagles Youth Football & Cheer group in 2013. It serves the Loomis area and is a feeder program for Del Oro High School.
She also used the money to pay her phone bills, car payments and other personal expenses, sheriff’s spokeswoman Officer Dena Erwin said in a statement.
The case came to light when a former Junior Golden Eagles board member received notice of a bank overdraft. Erwin said a Placer County Sheriff’s detective investigated and confirmed embezzlement had occurred.
Dillard is expected to face one count of embezzlement, Erwin said. Bail was set at $20,000.
