A man was struck and killed by a light rail train in Rancho Cordova Tuesday morning.

The man in his 40s was hit by the train at about 7:20 a.m. Tuesday as it approached the Zinfandel light rail station. He was taken to the hospital where he was died from his injuries.

Regional Transit police said that before he walked in front of the train, he had earlier been seen pushing a bicycle at the station. Police are investigating why the man was unaware of the approaching train.

Buses were temporarily used by Regional Transit to ferry passengers around the incident, but full rail service was quickly restored, according to an RT spokeswoman.
