Clerks or servers at four Folsom businesses are suspected of selling alcohol to a minor during a police undercover operation on Wednesday.
The operation by Folsom police and state Department of Alcoholic Control (ABC) was conducted at eight businesses. During the operation, a minor under the direction of an officer attempted to buy alcohol.
The minor did not use false identification. The employees are alleged to have sold the alcohol to the young person and were issued citations.
Four of the eight businesses provided alcohol to the minor. The four businesses where the employees sold the alcohol were Fresh Mex Express Mexican Grill on Prairie City Road, Peacock Indian Restaurant on Prairie City Road, CVS on East Bidwell Street and Whole Foods on Palladio Parkway.
“When 50 percent of businesses checked sell alcohol to a minor, that number is unacceptable,” said Sgt. Eric Heichlinger with the Folsom Police Department's Special Investigations Unit.
Heichlinger noted that the police department partners with the state ABC to provide free training to establishments on how to avoid selling alcohol to minors. The next training class is May 27th at the Folsom Police Department.
For more information about the training, call Peggy Parker at (916) 228-2545.
