A Sacramento Superior Court jury today convicted four men in the March 12, 2011, shooting death of Rashad Stephen Alexander outside a bar on Northgate Avenue.
The jury convicted Herbert Adrian Alvarez,22, and Alanzo Jackson Banks, 33, on first-degree murder charges. It found Darnell Williams, 24, guilty of second-degree murder, and it convicted Abdul Rashid Tanko, 20, of voluntary manslaughter.
Sacramento prosecutors charged that the fatal shooting outside the American Spirit bar resulted from ongoing tensions between two north area street gangs. The jury rejected the gang allegations that could have brought additional time for the defendants if they were found to be true.
The trial took place over two months in front of Judge Timothy M. Frawley. The verdict came in the jury’s seventh day of deliberations. Frawley scheduled the sentencing for July 18.
