A 38-year-old man from Sacramento is facing serious charges after he allegedly hit a taxi driver and carjacked his cab on Sunday.
The incident began about 10:15 p.m. Sunday outside a convenience market at Watt and Whitney avenues in Arden Arcade. A man assaulted the cabdriver, who suffered minor injury to his face, and took off in his taxi southbound on Watt Avenue.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies picked up his trail on westbound Highway 50 just east of Sixteenth Street in Sacramento. A pursuit began, ending at Fifth and V streets.
The suspect, identified as Contrell Pleasant, was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, stemming from him allegedly ramming a patrol vehicle during the pursuit. He also is accused of hit and run, and of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
