A motorcyclist died and his passenger was seriously injured in a crash this afternoon on Watt Avenue in the Antelope area.

The single-vehicle crash was reported at 1:55 p.m. California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Officer Lizz Dutton said the motorcycle, a black 2004 Honda CBR 1000, was southbound on Watt Avenue north of Blackfoot Way when the driver allowed the motorcycle to drift to the left. It hit the concrete curb of the median, then struck two trees in the median. The driver and his female passenger were ejected from the motorcycle

The driver, a young man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with major injuries, Dutton said.

Both riders were wearing helmets.

The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of family.

Watt Avenue was closed from Blackfoot Way to Navaho Drive for about three hours while investigators processed the scene.

The collision is still under investigation.
