A dispute that began inside a Broadway restaurant Tuesday night ended on the street with the fatal stabbing of a young man.

Sacramento police said that at about 9 p.m. Tuesday they were called to the corner of 19th Street and Broadway for a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man on the road with stab wounds in his upper body.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s office identified him as Yong Lor, 31, of Olivehurst, Yuba County.

Sacramento Fire Department medical personnel arrived and rendered aid before transporting Lor to UC Davis Medical Center. He was pronounced dead from his injuries at 10:55 p.m.

A preliminary investigation by officers revealed that Lor and family members were inside the restaurant when several men entered and sat down. What police termed as an “altercation” began between Lor and the group of males. Police are investigating the possibility that the altercation was gang-related, said police spokeswoman Michele Gigante.

Lor and his family decided to get up and leave the Pho Bac Hoa Viet restaurant. Once outside, the other group also left the restaurant and assaulted Lor.

The group of men then fled prior to police arriving to the scene. Detectives and crime scene investigators arrived to help in the investigation.

Family members of the dead man and other witnesses were contacted by officers at the scene.
