Two construction workers who fell to their deaths Friday at a Winters bridge construction site were identified Saturday by the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office.
Marcus Zane Powell, 25, of Redding and Glenn Hodgson, 49, of Richmond, died when a crane-hoisted basket that carried them broke free at the construction site for the new Winters Putah Creek Car Bridge. The two-man basket plunged 80 feet onto timbers covering a 30-foot hole dug for footings for the bridge.
Gina Moya, chief deputy coroner for Yolo County, said authorities have not determined the cause of death since autopsies are pending.
A task force comprised of investigators from Cal-OSHA, Winters police and the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office are trying to determine what happened. There is no word when construction will resume.
