The California Highway Patrol said a babysitter inadvertently backed over a toddler in Orangevale on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old babysitter was backing her Dodge Durango down a driveway at a home on Kezar Street about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday when she ran over the 18-month old girl. The child received facial abrasions and possible internal injuries.

The CHP said that, according to the child’s father and firefighters, there were tire marks on the toddler’s back.

The babysitter left the scene without knowing that she had hit the child. The child was taken to the hospital.

The babysitter was called back to the scene by the child’s father where she was interviewed by CHP officers. No criminal charges were being sought on Wednesday but the incident is under investigation.
