The Sacramento County coroner’s office has identified one of the men who died in an apparent murder-suicide in South Natomas as 27-year-old Juan Castro Valenzuela.

Sacramento police Officer Doug Morse said detectives believe Valenzuela was the shooter in the incident.

The victim in the apparent attack still has not been identified.

Officers responded to the Natomas Ridge apartments at West El Camino and Azevedo Drive after receiving multiple calls of shots fired in the area about 2 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found two men dead of gunshot wounds inside a downstairs unit of the large apartment complex.

Morse said Valenzuela lived in that apartment unit. The other man was an acquaintance.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that drug use prompted the shootings.
