Sacramento police searched for a man Wednesday morning who cut a jogger near the Sacramento River.

Police said the man was jogging around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday north of the Pioneer Bridge along a bike trail when he was assaulted. He suffered non life-threatening injury and was taken to the hospital.

Police were looking for a male suspect in the vicinity of the bike trail along the Sacramento River, where a bicyclist said he spotted what appeared to be blood on the pavement. The suspect was described as wearing a blue plaid shirt and blue jeans.

Motive was not immediately known. Police described the assault as an apparently random act and that the victim may have been cut with car keys.
