Damaged gas line capped after evacuation in Citrus Heights neighborhood

A leak in a natural gas line that prompted evacuation of several homes in Citrus Heights this afternoon has been capped, according to police and fire officials.

A leak in a natural gas line that prompted evacuation of several homes in Citrus Heights this afternoon has been capped, according to police and fire officials.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokeswoman Michelle Eidam said fire crews responded at 2:22 p.m. to the 7800 block of Beaupre Way, north of Sayonara Drive, regarding a report that excavation equipment had damaged a natural gas line. She said 10 to 15 homes were evacuated as a precaution and other residents in the area were advised to stay in place.

PG&E crews arrived and capped the line shortly after 3 p.m.

Citrus Heights Police reported that Sayonara Drive between Mauana and Lialana ways was closed to traffic during the incident.
