The driver of a car that slammed into a flatbed truck, killing a 17-year-old girl, has been booked into Sacramento County Jail.
Hernando Villa Jr., 23, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit and run with injury or death, driving on a suspended license and vehicular manslaughter.
Sacramento police said they received a call shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday of a car that had hit a parked flatbed truck on Florin Road near 21st Street. When officers arrived they found Maricela Baza, 17, of Sacramento, dead in the car.
Witnesses said that at least two people fled the crashed car. Officers eventually found the driver, Villa, and the passenger from the car.
The pair was taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries. Villa was cleared by the hospital for incarceration on Wednesday and booked into jail.
