The body of a 15-year-old Garden Valley boy has been recovered after the youth disappeared this morning while swimming in the middle fork of the American River.
The El Dorado County sheriff’s dispatch center received a call just before 11 a.m. reporting that the teenager had disappeared in the area of Cherokee Bar off Sliger Mine Road. Personnel from the Sheriff’s Department, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, and a California Highway Patrol helicopter responded to the area, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
The body of the youth, identified as Ronald Stewart, was pulled from the river in the same area where he was last seen. Life-saving efforts were initiated, but Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.
The cause of his death is being investigated by the Coroner’s Office.
