A man chased through a Sacramento housing complex was shot dead by assailants late Monday night.

Police said that at about 11:40 p.m. they were dispatched to the 300 block of Mint Street where shots were reported and a man was reportedly down on the ground.

When they arrived, a man in his 20s was found dead after being shot more than once. Officers tried to resuscitate him where he was found in a yard, but were unsuccessful. He was declared dead by fire department personnel.

Police determined that the man had left a family member’s home in the housing complex near North 12th Street and Richards Boulevard when he was chased by assailants. Eventually, he was confronted and gunned down.

Motive for the killing is not yet known. However, detectives have not ruled out gang activity playing a part in the man’s death.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call police at (916) 264-5471.
