A man died at a hospital Saturday night after an officer-involved shooting near Dry Creek Road and Bell Avenue in the Robla area, Sacramento police said.
Officers were called to the 4100 block of Wheatley Circle about 7:15 p.m. for a family disturbance, said Officer Michele Gigante, police spokeswoman.
The man was at a family party drinking, she said. When he tried to get into his car, family members disabled the car. He returned to the home, got a knife and began chasing his brother-in-law, Gigante said.
When officers arrived, the man was in a field off Cold Creek Way, still armed with the knife. He was saying, “Shoot me” to officers, Gigante said.
Officers used a Taser, but it was ineffective, she said. The two officers then fired at the man.
He was taken to a hospital and died there. No officers or the brother-in-law suffered injuries, Gigante said.
