Citrus Heights police officers arrested a man on suspicion of shooting his roommate last night. The victim is expected to survive, police said.

Officers responded to a residence on the 6200 block of Chapel View Drive just after 9 p.m. Sunday. Russell Fechter, the 57-year-old suspect, called 911 to report he had shot his roommate, according to Citrus Heights police. When officers arrived, the victim was conscious and breathing.

Officers later determined Fechter shot the victim one time in the neck after a verbal altercation.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery. Fechter was booked into the Sacramento County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
