A Reno woman died and her husband sustained major injuries when their SUV ran off Highway 20 in Nevada County.
The crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. Friday. According to the California Highway Patrol, Nolan W. Gail, 25, of Reno, was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee westbound on Highway 20, just west of Excelsior Point Road, west of Emigrant Gap. As the Jeep negotiated a gradual curve, it ran off the right side of the road onto the dirt shoulder. Gail reportedly over steered to the left, causing the Jeep to skid across both lanes of the roadway and run off the south side of the highway.
The Jeep rolled over several times through brush and trees. The top of the vehicle then struck a large tree.
Nolan Gail’s wife, Madison L. Gail, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene. Nolan Gail was flown by Calstar helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with major injuries, according to the CHP.
The accident is still under investigation.
