The man killed Sunday on Highway 99 when his car left the roadway and struck a tree has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office.
Coroner’s deputies identified the driver as Addison Leonard Avila, 27, of Sacramento.
The California Highway Patrol said that Avila’s car was traveling northbound on Highway 99 at Florin Road at a high rate of speed about 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses told the CHP that Avila was making “sweeping lane changes” before he lost control of the vehicle.
Avila’s car spun out of control and left the roadway edge before crashing into a eucalyptus tree. The car split in half and Avila was killed on impact.
The rear portion of the car contained a 3-year-old in a child’s car seat. The child suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment, according to a CHP press release.
