All lanes are open again on Interstate 80 in the Sierra after a big rig overturned, blocking traffic for three hours Tuesday morning.
The big rig crash in the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Applegate Road was reported at about 6 a.m. Tuesday. Concrete from a damaged center divider also fell into the westbound lanes when the crash occurred but was quickly cleaned up.
All lanes in the eastbound direction re-opened shortly after 9 a.m.
The big rig flipped onto its side and a 25-foot steel container being hauled on a trailer came loose, skidding or tumbling to another spot along the highway. Before the highway could be re-opened, the overturned rig and the cargo box had to be moved out of the way.
The driver was out of his big rig shortly after the crash, according to a California Highway Patrol incident information website.
