A police standoff in El Dorado Hills Wednesday night resulted in the surrender of a man who was then jailed on child molestation-related charges.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s detectives were following-up on a child molestation investigation involving Eric Hatfield Jr., 37, when they went to his home in an apartment complex about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies say Hatfield is accused of molesting a girl.

Deputies surrounded Hatfield’s apartment complex and spoke with him by telephone. Hatfield was believed to be armed and made suicidal statements, according to deputies.

Police evacuated the area surrounding the home and blocked off El Dorado Hills Boulevard between Olsen Lane and Wilson Boulevard.

The sheriff’s crises response unit negotiated with Hatfield for hours before he surrendered at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The road was then re-opened.

Hatfield was booked into jail on child molestation-related charges, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. His bail was set at $1 million.
