Sacramento police spent the night investigating the death of a man who was hit by two cars on Meadowview Road.
The dead man was identified Thursday by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office as Russell Victor Johnson, 90, of Sacramento.
Investigators are still working to understand how the man ended up in the roadway, but so far do not believe anything criminal occurred, said police spokesman Officer Doug Morse.
Officers were called to the scene about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday where one car hit Johnson on Meadowview Road near 21st Street before another vehicle struck and dragged him for several blocks. Drivers of both cars stayed at the scene and spoke to police, Morse said. No arrests have been made.
Investigators do not know if Johnson was walking in or was already down on the roadway when he was struck by the first vehicle, Morse said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Meadowview Road was re-opened after hours of being closed so that investigators could determine the circumstances of the traffic death.
