Elk Grove police say they have arrested a “person of interest” in the death of a local man whose body was found on a walking trail Thursday.
The man’s death, initially described as “suspicious,” is now being investigated as a homicide, police said.
The victim – identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office today as Xihao Huang, 75, of Elk Grove – had been stabbed.
Police have not released the name of the person of interest, but said that person is in custody on an unrelated charge.
Officer Chris Trim, a police spokesman, said Huang’s family members discovered his body Thursday afternoon on a trail that passes through a field near Whitelock Parkway and Bellaterra Drive. Family members had last seen him about 7 a.m., and grew concerned when he did not return home after what they assumed was a routine trip to look for recyclables, Trim said.
