Ashleigh Smith, 27, and Terry Scott, 19, were booked into Sacramento County Jail Thursday night on suspicion of felony child abuse and neglect in connection with the death of their 3-month-old son, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

The Sacramento Fire Department responded to a call for aid on the 2900 block of North Meadows Drive in south Sacramento on Thursday evening. An infant was found in critical condition and transported to an area hospital. Smith and Scott were arrested following an investigation and interview with detectives about the death of their child, according to reports.

The infant was transferred to the UC Davis Medical Center Thursday night and died Saturday morning.

Additional charges against Smith and Scott may be filed pending the outcome of the infant’s autopsy.
